About Us

The world changed for everyone in 2020 and what had previously been a hobby that kept my grandchildren occupied at the weekends, became a really great way of switching off from the relentlessness of the situation we found ourselves in.

I come from a large family who have always got on with stuff, whether it be knitting, sewing, plumbing or building. I remember making functional models out of corrugated cardboard when I was very small and eventually graduated with a degree in engineering in 1990.

As the situation in the hospital where I work became more challenging, those of us who could moved to work from home. I couldn’t be redeployed to help on the front line so I started knitting Thank you bears for colleagues (free pattern from Knitables here: https://www.knitables.com/charity/). That helped my manage my mental health and kept me busy outside work through spring and summer when contact with my family was limited. Thank heavens for online yarn deliveries!!

I discovered Dot art while looking for projects and decided to give it a go. Starting with a set of bamboo crocket hooks and poster paint from our craft cupboard, I soon progressed to “proper” acrylic paints and more elaborate tools on real canvas panels. I added wooden shapes as we approached Christmas, and we had our first stall in Wellington Market in December 2020 selling keyrings, coasters, magnets, decorations and paintings.
